About Us
The California High School Rodeo Association (CHSRA) is open to any high school student enrolled in a California High School.
Founded in 1970, the organization is dedicated to building sportsmanship, horsemanship and character in our youth.  CHSRA is a
family organization and family participation.  CHSRA was created to give high school students the opportunity to participate and
compete in this unique and challenging sport.  Although not recognized by high school athletics, the CHSRA offers a program that
sets high school rodeo apart from other high school varsity sports on a level comparable to collegiate and professional rodeo
competitors.

CHSRA is a member of the
National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA) and operates according to the NHSRA rulebook.  CHSRA
has approximately 900 members in nine districts.  Student members must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average and must
have passing grades in all subjects.

CHSRA is an independent student athletic association governing itself without supervision of school administrations or assistance
from tax dollars.  Members are fully insured, supervised and guided by adult experts. Competitors have the opportunity to earn
scholarships for post-secondary education.

Each of the nine districts holds eight to ten rodeos throughout the school year.  Points for placing first thru tenth are accumulated
throughout the year and the top five district competitors in each event qualify to go to the CHSRA State Finals rodeo in June.

The top four winners in each event at the State Finals qualify to compete at the high school national finals rodeo in July.  Those who
place fifth through tenth qualify to go compete at Silver State International Invitational Rodeo in Fallon, Nevada over the 4th of July
weekend.  We also have the Challenge of Champions Rodeo that is held in March every year.  The top three competitors from nine
districts in each event compete at challenge of the Champions.

CHSRA has state board meetings at which all members are welcome.  Each district sends representatives from whom the Executive
Board is elected.  The CHSRA board oversees state business including the State Finals Rodeo and the Challenge of Champions
Rodeo.  Both State and District organizations sponsor scholarships for year end winners as well as awards.
